You've undoubtedly heard of the Impressionists, and the American Impressionists...but do you know of the Pennsylvania Impressionists ? Fern Coppedge was one.

What I really like about this painting is the terrific sense of atmosphere that the artist has rendered. It is towards the end of a hot humid day. The golden hour has made the trees in the middle ground very warm, with very dramatic shadows. I have a box of Breyer horses from my childhood. When I was little, I was sure that I was going to be either a horse or an artist. My family saw my passion and gave me Breyer horses. I used them for drawing and playing. Their hooves, ears, and eyes were carefully coated in clear nail polish for shine. For the month of April, my work is being exhibited in the Piper Gallery at Cary Memorial Library in Lexington, MA. Lexington is one of my favorite local small towns. Beautiful colonial architecture, coupled with a small town feel and a wonderful bike path all make this a town that I would not hesitate to live in.

How do you turn what others would consider junk into a masterpiece?
Rhode Island-based Thomas Deininger does it.
He used many items, including teddy bears and SpongeBob to recreate a Monet painting in 3D.

The recent warm spell, or mini Summer, has gotten me energized. In the spring, flowers bloom, the sap runs in Maples, and I get to feeling like I need to paint. It helps to be able to sit on the front porch in the sunshine with my trusty collie, Miss Biddies (who, by the way, turned 18 yesterday).

I worked on this for a while (see progress shots below). Sometimes, you get tired of staring at the same thing, and you can't see the forest for the trees, so you put it aside. Eventually, something knocks you back into it.
